The Chicago flag is composed of 4 stars which represents its history and values. A new awards show named Fifth Star Awards which celebrates creativity and art within Chicago was having its inaugural year, and we were tasked with spreading the news.
We asked artists and designers in the Chicago community to show us what their fifth star would look like. The stars became individual expressions of what creativity means to everyone, a glimpse into their hearts and minds. We then used the stars in a variety of media, from Instagram videos, to print ads, all ending with a intro video for the awards show it self.
Murals in the Chicago office of Braintree. The three murals were based on the companies values.
I had the awesome opportunity to create a mural in Facebook's Chicago office. The idea was to have all these characters connecting through Facebook and Instagram technology.
Design for HUNTSMAN VODKA. The imagery is of a blind tiger, and a blind pig, both of which use to be lingo for hidden prohibition era speakeasies.
This is a series of watercolors that were in the show TYPEFORCE 4, where all the work was based on typography. I loved the challenge of having type incorporated in my artwork and making something that's not edited like some of the illustration work I have done...
A series of acrylic paintings on wood, showcasing a "cycle" of life as a man takes a "King's" life "thinking" whats best, only to discover that blood you spill along your path is not always worth what you will become along the way,
Another mural in the Chicago LB offices. The inspiration came from the iconic Leo Burnett apple. This mural is in the new business space, and is set in an apple orchard where new apples and opportunities are constantly growing.
A new intranet was coming to Leo Burnett, thus changing the way we obtain information, and how we will communicate with each other. Our task was to create a global initiative to help employees understand the new features, while also showing them how the new system will be better.
Since this was to be a global launch spanning over 85 office we chose to use the Leo Burnett icons as our ambassadors of change. They were to be the our Microsoft Paperclip, taking you by the hand and easing you into a drastically new environment.
Mural in the Chicago Leo Burnett office. This wall is meant to house project briefs that are open to the whole agency. The concept was to have a structure that looked as if it was constantly under construction by the little creatures. I tried to add some weirdness to it with the character actions.
Mural in the lobby of the Leo Burnett Chicago office. Landmarks of Chicago being overrun by a splash of creativity.
Corona campaign for Cinco De Mayo.
Created for in-store displays & OOH.
I referenced Mexican style drawings to create a world of celebration around the bottle, while also utilizing Coronas brand colors.
Artwork on clipboards. The wood on the clipboards is really nice to draw on with sharpies, and metallic pens. A few random ideas are sitting here...
Design for a Frosted Flakes campaign that was trying to reach an older audience. The idea was to have the public vote on two celebrities from different backgrounds to come together and meet over a bowl of Frosted Flakes.
OOH posters, and in store signage prompted the consumers to vote for their favorites.
Print for Pop Tart Minis
Quick set of type treatments for a name/logo gif animation.
This campaign was for the GCFD. They wanted a bigger turnout at their annual Hunger Walk, which raises awareness about their cause "No 1 Should Go Hungry".
Shopping has transitioned into online shopping, which now produces a lot of waste. I decided to repurpose the cardboard into a ship for my 4 year old daughter to play in. Along the way it also became a scratching post, and bed for my two cats.
Campaign for Corona Familiar, all based on the sharing of the 32 oz. bottle among friends.
I did the design and the art direction of the pieces. Conceptually I wanted to create something where the focus was on the attitude and style and not about how pretty the beer bottle looks. The color scheme was kept to a minimum, and there was never a beautiful bottle shot, nor did you ever see the beer. Corona was all about the beach and dripping bottles, this was meant to be something different.
Merit at One Show 2013
T-Shirt illustrations for the Secret "Mean Stinks" worlds largest assembly.
Digital program for an awards show highlighting young athletes from around the country. The award was in partnership with the ESPY Awards.
The idea was to give kids a way to create their own sports murals while entering themselves into the running for the award. Once submissions closed the kids selected as the finalist were then featured on the site, where users were asked to vote for the one most deserving of the award.
Logo design for a company that makes jewelry from old computer parts. The logo was inspired by their process of taking old electrical objects and combining them to make tinny creatures trapped in resin. I really wanted the logo to feel as if it was made from all sorts of different parts just like the jewlery is.
A floating face in space. A new concept.
Portraits of me and my wife I made right before my daughter was born. They are made from paper, and are in shadowboxes. Working with paper was a great experience, being able to transform my drawings into something three demential was an eye opener. I've been playing with creating such images ever since.
Book illustrations for Leo Burnett Chicago. The book was about LB's work philosophy of humankind.
A new series of artwork based on the deaths of the playing card royalty.
Illustrations for a children's book Pen to Paper: My Imaginary Friend, where the kids wrote the stories and adults illustrated them.

Skull illustration for a bowling outing with our work team. Our creative directors name is Dom, so we though the name Dom's Dominators would be appropriate.
